The Sport Science program at the Canadian Athletics Coaching Centre strives to bring relevant sport science content to Canadian athletes and coaches through research, publication, and applied information sharing via program development and web content. Through a sport science delivery model that emphasizes applicability and validity, the Centre works towards integrating athletes and coaches with the most current sport science resources and expertise in a “living laboratory” setting, while at the same time leading and supporting innovative research initiatives.
Delivery of the Sport Science program is through the following:
Research The Centre supports research programs and initiatives that have a valid application to high performance and developmental coaches and athletes across Canada. The sport science manager and centre director, in conjunction with the Centre advisory committee, review initiatives and programs and determine whether the research has applicability to the Canadian coaching environment.
Programming The Centre delivers sport science via a programming vehicle that brings coaches from around the world together to events such as the annual Athletics Canada Technical Congress, and an annual athletics biomechanics seminar. These events offer the latest expertise in sport science research and activities and are an invaluable resource to the athletics coach.
Publishing The Centre publishes information on a variety of topics relevant to athletics in an effort to bring new and recent advances in sport science to coaches worldwide.
Information Sharing and Web Content Using the World Wide Web, the Centre keeps an updated sport science web page that is a valuable resource to any coach. Through a coach’s resource library, web accessible information, and posted links coaches have a one-stop resource for all their information needs. The site will host information on all aspects of sport science and athletics information through research articles, publications, and links to other web based resources. It will also offer the latest news on recent developments in all sport science and technical aspects of the sport.
